We talked about the Jamboree and all that entailed. Bugs, men who lie on swords, imperialism, etc. The conversation never moved from this topic though; staying on 'How To Make FYS Better". Many people had very good points., but Jesh had the best. He came up with making FYS a current studies. Everyone getting a newspaper instead of actual books. This idea was also the only one which each person vocalized agreement. Now, if you didn't, ok, but I'm generalizing cause there was a lot of "yeah" noise when Mcphee asked if we agreed.
Imperialism was a hot topic. Mary Beth was arrested for "native dancing", Dan was almost arrested for using spoons, and for some reason, on my paper I wrote: potato+fried =chips. Don't know what that was about, but I'm guessing it was said by some mystery person.
Christina asked what M&M's were for, and Jesh really liked the Genocide booth. Oh, and I wrote down a Christina quote, "Don't pretend you're interested. Your not." she was talking about this guy who was sitting at the dancing booth(?). That is what he would say to people. So really, its not a Christina quote, but a really sad boy's.
Thats about it, hope everyone has a good day!

The Fountain

so, i went and saw the Fountain during break, and it was amazing! i seriously recommend All I can say is wow. I mean, wow. They were the cat's meow. They were a summer sunshine during winter. They were a poncho at sea world. Everything good in this world equals the Decemberists. The lead singer even walked off stage to vomit after one song, then came back and sang the rest of the set. That is dedication. Not to mention that its only expected from the greatest folk/indie band (only slightly behind Cloud Cult) ever to hit my life.

Really Good Music

So, I'm just sitting here listening to Pandora while doing my Italian homework, and the most amazing song is playing into my ears. Now, I am ashamned to admit that I have not written anything since the questions, but some people have written really wonderful things.

One interesting peice was written by Nieve on Govonor Blanco's speech and the discussion in class. They stated, "So I’m not going to say that I would have enjoyed her speech more if she had talked about this topic instead of that, or criticize her speaking abilities; I’d rather have a political leader who is terrible speaker and a great leader than someone who is a terrible leader and a great speaker." This was written on retrospect of the conversation in class. Interesting, right? I thought so. They should have said it out loud. Its a valid argument. And if you did, Annonymous, then sorry I didn't remember.

I was suprised by how much others had written. Many talked about the chapters we had to read in Deep Blues. A statement written by Ruby X is amazing. Here it is:

... this country was built on a lot of people's pain. It was built on alienation and control. Even the disconsolate and destitute were pitted against each other, often to the benefit of the more affluent members of society.

Got right to the point. The rest of the blog is just as cool. Look it up.

I hope this is what everyone was thinking when I was given the job of writing the summary. All of you wrote really cool things. Good job.

Questions due Sept. 5

1. Why did you sign up for fys roots?

I love music and since I wasn't going to be in orchestra or study music in a way that I have been in the past, I wanted to try a new angle at doing what I enjoy.

2. 5 pieces of music to a desert isle...

Easy, (1) I would take the song "Transistor's Radio" on Cloud Cults second album, Happy Hippopotamus (2) Gorgal Bordello's "Avenue B" (3) Beatles's "Norwegian Wood" (4) Bob Marley's "Redemption Song" and finally (5) Defiance Ohio's "Old Dead Tree".

3. Piece of music you associate with a relative.

It would have been my grandmother and her taste of listening to Elvis' Blue Christmas album every year while opening gifts. She had a soft spot for the king, and to this day, everyone doesn't open a present until its on.

4. National anthem.

If I had the choice, it would be "God Says Nothing Back" by The Wallflowers. Its kind of a dark song, but since the first national anthem was written becouse Keys was so moved by his government and fellow countrymen, then mine would have to be on how we, as a society, have become disillusioned by what we are, and not turning thoughts towards what we could be.

5.Music related performance.

During highschool I participated in orchestra. Also, I was a painter for 13 theatre shows at anoka. that could be perceived as non musical, but once your surrounded by music for one month and at least two of those weeks are 18 hour days of painting, then everyone is singing. other than that...nothing unless a person counts the frequent solo concerts that happen in my car during road trips.

6. Question for Gov. Blanco

What would you say is the most positive thing that has come out of the Katrina tragedy?
